Disney to access its game content for unacceptable violence

Lawmakers and pundits across the nation are jumping on the anti-game violence bandwagon, and Disney’s CEO plans to keep his company out of increasingly turbulent waters.

The relationship between games and violence is once more a question of national interest in the wake of the Newtown school shooting.

Multiplebills, and anexecutive orderfrom President Barack Obama are pushing for state sponsored research of the matter.

No research to date has proven a causal relationship between games and real-world violence, but that doesn’t mean Disney isn’t prepared to take a look at violence in its games.

"At Disney there’s very little [violent content], but I still want to make sure we’re asking ourselves the right questions in terms of that standard and also [ensure] we’re willing to be a part of a dialogue in today’s world that I think is pretty necessary in terms of what our role is and what our role should be," Iger toldDeadline.

While the executive did not provide any specific details, he promised to take stock in everything we’ve got that can be considered near the line or over the line”.
