Though commentators would have you believe that the music game genre is in a savage state of decline, new numbers from NPD Group claim that DJ Hero was in revenue terms the most successful new IP of 2009 across America and Europe.
Not a bad achievement, considering it was up against the likes of Eidos’ Batman: Arkham Asylum, Sony’s inFamous, 2K Games’ Borderlands, EA’s Dragon Age: Origins and Activision’s Band Hero.
The game carries an RRP of 100 in the UK, though retail promotions saw its price plunge as low as 65 in the run-up to Christmas.
DJ Hero has transformed music gaming by marrying an innovative turntable controller and exhilarating gameplay with the biggest artists and incredible music from around the world,” Activision CEO Bobby Kotick stated
Consumers and critics agree that DJ Hero is one of the best music games ever created and further establishes Guitar Hero as the premier franchise of its kind.”
Activision yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to the DJ Hero franchise. A second instalment in the series is currently in development.
