EA confirms Frostbite 3-powered Star Wars games… but not this year

Publisher EA has said it won’t be releasing any Star Wars games in its current fiscal year, which ends March 31st 2014.

EA earlier this week announced a deal with Dinsey to produce core games based on the famed sci-fi licence across consoles, PC, mobiles and tablets.

It has now clarified that it will be building titles using the Frostbite 3 engine, which last month impressed onlookers via the first Battlefield 4 demo.

"Some of our most renowned and innovative creative teams are working on ideas in the Star Wars universe," EA Labels president Frank Gibeau told investors, as reported by CVG.

"The new games may borrow from films, but will be entirely new stories and gameplay. Powering it all will be our Frostbite 3 game engine. For the products that we’re building, you can expect that you will see them across all of those major platforms and we’re very excited about it.

Gibeau also confirmed that EA’s biggest studios – specifically BioWare, DICE and Visceral, are all handling projects based on the Star Wars licence.

He added: The Studios at DICE, Visceral and BioWare are really fired up and we’re excited about this opportunity and how it fits into our overall portfolio."
