A problem with EA and Maxis title Darkspore has this weekend served a perfect illustrations of the perils faced by consumers with online-only titles.
Polygon reports that the game has been pulled from Steam following persistent and unresolved server problems that are preventing many players from accessing the game or saving their progress.
And yes, an online connection is required to play all aspects of the title.
“Darkspore is no longer developed,” the game’s official forum reads. “It is for almost all intents and purposes an abandoned title. If you cannot play the game and have flicked through technical issues for any fixes, then contact EA Customer Support; especially if it regards CD-Keys or refunds.
“Error 73003 has gone unfixed & remains an issue. Error Code 3 has arisen for the majority/all and remains an issue. I wish you all luck, no matter what path you choose with Darkspore.”
The game is still for sale on EA’s Origin service.
The game reportedly has a long history of server woes that at one stage prevented all owners from playing it for nine days.
