EA wants to release Star Wars: Battlefront around the same time as Star Wars VII

Well over a year away – that appears to be your best case scenario for the release of EA’s Star Wars Battlefront.

What we’re building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made. And that’s just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars,” EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Sderlund told investors as reported by Seeking Alpha, via CVG.

"Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it."

Disney’s Star Wars VII has previously been given a release date of December 2015. Of course, close to the movie” could easily be October or November of that year.

Don’t forget, too, that there are lots of rumours about a possible delay to the film following Harrison Ford’s broken ankle, although other chatter has speculated that there has been a re-write to lessen Han Solo’s role in proceedings to minimise the impact.

Whether or not the delay of Battlefield: Hardline to 2015 could impact the situation remains to be seen.
