Facebook creates European social games team

Facebook has put together a dedicated team to work alongside social games developers throughout Europe.

The social platform already has a US team, and now looks to expand into what Facebook’s director of EMEA business development and partnershipsChristian Hernandez described to The Guardian as"the most interesting region in terms of the innovation on top of the Facebook platform in gaming."

The decision to form the team was based largely around the success ofEuropean developers such as King.com, Supercell,Wooga, and Nordeus, who have managed to both survive and secure a personal niche in the market with games that standout from those offered by Zynga and other larger social gaming companies.

Mobile will be a major focus for the new European games branch. Since Facebook’s extension of its applications platform to mobile devices last October, people now have the ability todiscover games through the company’s mobile apps, while developers can make money from in-game transactions using either native in-app purchases orFacebook Credits.
