Only a tiny fraction of developers admit to currently playing YouTubers for video coverage of their games.
Gamasutra reports that of the 325 developers it surveyed just five, or 1.5 per cent, said they have paid a flat-fee to YouTubers for coverage. 2.1 per cent said they had agreed to a revenue sharing deal.
However, 19.1 per cent of respondents said they are considering paying a flat fee for coverage in the future while 11.6 per cent would consider a revenue sharing agreement.
Further to this, 14.7 per cent reckon they’ve been asked for a flat fee for coverage and 13.6 per cent for a revenue share.
Yogscast has previously confirmed that it has entered into a revenue sharing deal with the developers of PC title Space Engineers. Further to that, Gamasutra is carrying a copy of Yogscast’s standardised non disclosure agreement that parties must sign to participate.
Interestingly, 4.7 per cent of developers said they had paid for written press coverage of their titles and 13.9 per cent would consider doing so in the future. Incredibly, 29 per cent have been asked to pay for traditional written press coverage – far more than for video coverage.
