FIFA heads Christmas number one race

FIFA's powering form mirrors that of the last two year’s Christmas winners – both Need for Speed: Most Wanted in 2005 and Need for Speed: Underground 2 in 2004 enjoyed three weeks at the top prior to claiming the Christmas number one.

A victory for the football rival this year would make it four years at the top for EA, with the last non-EA title to claim the festive crown being Rockstar’s GTA: Vice City Stories in 2002.

Still, FIFA hasn’t claimed the Christmas top spot for a long time - you have to go back all the way to 1997 and the release of FIFA World to the Road Cup to see the last time EA’s sports title claimed the Christmas top spot.

“FIFA is most definitely the favourite to do it this year, especially as we’re expecting some discounting at retail,” ChartTrack’s senior market analyst Chris Poole told MCV.

The current odds from online bookmakers Paddy Power include:

Need for Speed: Carbon: 5/6
FIFA 07: 5/6
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: 8/1
Happy Feet: 10/1
Pro Evolution Soccer 6: 12/1
Gears of War: 20/1
Rainbow Six Vegas: 25/1
WWTBAM Party Edition: 25/1
