Flipkart suspends PS4 preorders, says it received limited quantities

Flipkart has stopped accepting preorders for the PlayStation 4 just days after kicking off its pre-order campaign.

Currently we’ve stopped taking pre-order due to limited quantity received,” the retailer tweeted.

The PS4 page on Flipkart says the console is out of stock, giving interested customers the option to get notified when preorders resume.

Flipkart was offering up to Rs 5,000 cash back on purchase of the PS4 using HDFC Bank credit or debit cards.

Sony has said that the PS4 is likely to sell out in India soon after launch as, at launch, demand for the console in India exceeds supply.

PlayStation India head Atindriya Bose told MCV earlier this week that, at least at launch, it was more interested in supplying PS4 stock to retailers that could provide customers the opportunity to try out the console before buying.

"We are aligning ourselves with a certain level of ambience, where a proper discussion to both gamers and non-gamers can happen. That’s our primary objective. Then, with the next wave, we will broad-base the supply. So the smaller retailers will not get much stock at launch,” Bose had said.

As a result, online retailers like Flipkart will perhaps get lesser stock than larger physical retail chains. Independent retailers, both online and offline, are also not expected to receive much stock of the PS4 at launch, if any.
