Free Skype app hitting Vita tomorrow

Sony announced that a free Skype app will be released for the PlayStation Vita tomorrow.

It will be available on PSN via the ‘Media & Apps Social’ category at some point tomorrow morning (April 25th).

Once installed it will enable owners to make video and audio calls over a Wi-Fi network or, for those who own the 3G version, over the airwaves.

The app also features a background mode that allows owners to run Skype while playing games or using other apps, preventing missed calls when the machine is in use.

Sony does add though that some games include a mandatory connectivity shut-off that will prevent this functionality. 3G video calling is also dependent on the network support offered by a user’s provider.
