GAME wins Retail Week award

Leading UK High Street games specialist GAME has been crowned The Speciality Retailer of the Year winner at last night’s Oracle Retail Week Awards 2009.

It beat off competition in the category from the likes of Pets at Home, Ann Summers, La Senza, HMV and Majestic Wine.

The gaming industry continues to see dramatic growth, as new consoles, software and hardware increases its appeal to a greater demographic than ever before,” Retail Week editor Tim Danaher stated.

Meanwhile the economic climate means that more of us are opting for evenings at home, and these combined factors have helped GAME to achieve phenomenal levels of success in a difficult market.

In recent years the company has adopted a well-planned programme of expansion, which built strong foundations for the GAME brand and ensured it was ideally positioned to benefit from the business opportunities created by these trends.”

Other winners at the event included Sainsburys, Argos, Asda, Apple and Morrisons.
