GameCube Zelda suffers '06 slip

August 16th by Johnny Minkley

The release of major GameCube title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has been delayed until 2006, Nintendo of Europe confirmed to MCV this morning.

The global delay of the product, which was scheduled to hit retail this November, is to allow extra development time to add more content, according to the Japanese giant.

“Our development team has decided to take extra time to add some incredible new elements to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess,” a Nintendo of Europe statement explained. “As a result, the game will now launch in 2006 globally.

“We recognise there may be some disappointed fans, however we firmly believe this additional time will result in a much more enjoyable gaming experience.

“GameCube fans will have a variety of Nintendo games to choose from this Christmas, including Mario Smash Football, Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness."

The Miyamoto-produced adventure was Nintendo’s flagship title for GameCube this Christmas, and the news will come as a blow to both the publisher and retail.
