GameOn London cancelled

November’s GameOn London consumer video games expo has been cancelled, MCV can reveal.

The show, which was announced earlier this year amidst fanfare around a collaboration with HMV, has been called off for a variety of reasons according to the organiser Creative Games Media.

A statement from the team said: GameOn London for November has been cancelled. The economic climate of 2009 and short timeline with which the new GameOn London management team took over has proven too challenging to launch a mass-market consumer gaming event of the magnitude and quality that the UK market merits.

All ticket holders will be reimbursed their monies from Seatem ticketing agency.

The team behind GameOn London is committed to the UK video-gaming industry. We hope to be able to provide an event of significant magnitude in the future for the benefit of the entire UK games industry.”

The show was originally set to take place on November 14th and 15th at Earls Court.

Just last month organiser Creative Ventures Group restructured its games team to better manage both GameOn and its other games industry services.

However the event’s cancellation doesn’t mean that the autumn months will be any quieter in terms of consumer-facing expos: the MCM Expo is still set to take place on October 24th and 25th, with the Eurogamer Expo running from October 27th to October 31st in Leeds and London. The London Games Festival, meanwhile, runs from October 24th to November 1st.
