GameStop is closing its stores for Thanksgiving

US High Street games retailer GameStop has confirmed that its stores will be closed on Thursday November 27th for Thanksgiving.

Many US retailers will typically open on Thanksgiving to kick off their Black Friday deals a day early. Black Friday is one of the biggest American shopping days and typically signifies the start of the Christmas shopping season. In recent years even UK stores have started running Black Friday promotions.

GameSpot reports that the company has instead chosen to allow workers to spend the US holiday with their families.

"We will be closed on Thanskgiving Day next week in the United States out of respect for our associates and their families," CEO Paul Raines told investors. "Sometimes, we have to not let the pressure from other retailers distract us from our values."

Nonetheless, many GameStop outlets will still be opening their doors at midnight.
