It’s hardly be the most surprising news in the world, but Edge Online is claiming to have word from “a trusted US publishing source” that Epic Games is currently developing Gears of War 3.
Furthermore, the site predicts that it is being scheduled for an April 2011 release, with its first official reveal due next month.
An April release would be very much out of kilter with Microsoft’s previous Gears of War strategy, with the game traditionally arriving during the heart of the lucrative Q4 period.
Edge, however, claims that Microsoft is keen to shift the release date so as to not clash with its already planned big Q4 offering this year – Bungie’s Halo Reach.
In fact, Microsoft is said to be so keen on pursuing this strategy that it’s willing to risk an April release despite the fact the cam is scheduled to be completed this year.
