GMAs 2009: Hat-trick for Pat Garratt

Pat Garratt and his site VG247 took home three of the key Games Media Awards last night.

The site was named best blog, while Garratt himself won accolades for both best online writer – and was named the Games Media Legend.

"This is immensely flattering and it really means a hell of a lot, so thanks very much," said Garratt, who was otherwise quite lost for words throughout the night as the wins mounted up.

He has since posted a fuller acceptance speech to his site.

VG247 saw of fellow nominees Rockpapershotgun.com, UKresistance.co.uk, the Guardian Gamesblog and Nowgamer.com.

The Games Media Awards were held at Jongleurs, Camden, and hosted hundreds of the UK’s games media and marketing and PR execs.

Key sponsors were Bethesda’s WET, Activision’s DJ Hero, Electronic Arts, Formula One 2009 from Codemasters, IL-2 Stumovik from 505 Games, Namco Bandai, New Super Mario Bros Wii from Nintendo, Saw from Konami, Scribblenauts from Warner Bros., Sega, Ubisoft, and Xbox 360
