Halo Wars beat MS expectations

It enjoyed one of the lowest profile releases in the history of the franchise but Microsoft has claimed that Xbox 360 strategy title Halo Wars actually beat the company’s sales expectations.

"It was a big critical success," the creative director of Halo-focused development studio Frank O’Connor told CVG. "It’s still the number one selling RTS on consoles this generation."

And although we’re very far from the point where a sequel could be green-lit, O’Connor did voice his belief that Kinect could be a natural fit for the game.

"Is the will to do a sequel there? Who knows," he added. "We could do something that works on Kinect, for example. There’s no will against it but we’re not working on it right now.

"We take risks in the universe and we always have done over the last ten years. The new novel explores the Forerunner universe which was originally a mystery and it goes deep, it explores it pretty fully.

"The appetite for this stuff is huge as long as the quality is there – and that’s the way that we should approach it."
