PlayStation karaoke titan SingStar could be on the verge of a switch to free-to-play.
The rumour stems from a new popup message being presented to users of the SingStar Viewer app on PS3, which allows users to browse theirs and their friends media libraries and download tracks independently of the main game.
According to Shack the message reads: “Support for the SingStar Viewer has been discontinued. The complete SingStar experience will be available as a free download very soon. Keep on Singing!”
The SingStarHQ Twitter account then hinted at a possible reveal this week.
Currently SingStar players need at least of the many SingStar game discs to play. As well as a pair of USM microphones and an optional PSEye, of course. This disc would then also provide access to whatever tracks had been downloaded digitally – all of which remain accessible regardless of which disc is being used to play the game.
It seems like a natural fit for the F2P model and a potentially very lucrative one.
