HMV re-launch is go

Entertainment giant HMV is relaunching itself ahead of Christmas.

The firm collapsed into administration this year but was saved by Hilco. Now it hopes to rebuild with a number of new initiatives, revamped stores and a TV advertising campaign.

The focus is on DVD and music, but there’s plenty happening with games, such as midnight launches for all triple-A titles, TV advertising, double loyalty points on trade-ins, plus a revamped games area, which will be completed by November 15th. The new bays focus on game franchises such as FIFA, Call of Duty, Battlefield and Skylanders.

Improved bundles and acessories ranges are also planned, while game pods (current and next-gen) feature in 80 stores.

It forms part of a re-launch that’s included artists signings, the arrival of HMV Digital plus the opening of HMV’s 363 Oxford Street branch, which featured a guest appearance from Sir Paul McCartney.

HMV games and tech boss Phil Browes said: Games is an integral part of the HMV re-launch. Following several months of activity, our stores will be exciting destinations for customers. Impactful franchise bays and new ranges, combined with our above-the-line advertising, HMV digital and Pure, as well as multiple signings and performances from top artists, mean that we are set for an exciting Christmas.”
