IGN launches Japanese website

IGN Japan has launched today.

The Japanese arm means there are now 29 different ‘international’ versions of IGN, available in 22 different languages.

IGN Japan follows a partnership between IGN owner Ziff Davis and Japanese news media group Sankei Digital.

We’re thrilled to welcome Sankei to our global family for the launch of IGN Japan,” said Ziff Davis’ Adam Doree.

Sankei shares with us an exciting vision for IGN Japan, and has what it takes to bring that vision to life and create value not just in games media, but also the broader entertainment and fan culture space that is very relevant to Japanese audiences and brands today.

Everyone at IGN has been looking forward to IGN Japan because of the country’s special gaming heritage, which still produces some of the biggest global mega-franchises today. This partnership with Sankei means that IGN Japan can play a key role for IGN globally, enhancing its unique position as the only truly global games media brand.”

Yosuke Torii, President of Sankei Digital, added: We are very excited to be the operating entity of IGN Japan. IGN is a world-renowned site for gaming and popular culture, a field that has very strong growth potential. We are privileged to team with Ziff Davis and IGN, with its vast experience, knowledge and resources in this area.

We will translate and publish the best of current IGN content, and at the same time create many kinds of original content fit for consumption in the Japanese market. Also, we are hoping for IGN Japan to be one of the originating points of information for the global IGN network.”
