iPhone SE and new iPad Pro unveiled by Apple

Apple last night unveiled two brand new iOS products, adding yet more options to its already swelling catalogue of smartphones and tablets.

First up is the iPhone SE, which is best thought of as an iPhone 6 crammed into an iPhone 5 chassis, will go on sale at the end of the month. The idea is that consumers who want high-end power now have a small-size option.

It lacks some of the options found in the iPhone 6s, however, such as 3D Touch, although it does boast the same A9 processor found in the 6s and 6 Plus.

Also revealed was a new iPad Pro, which again shrinks down the size of the offering. The latest version is actually exactly the same size as the iPad Air 2, but comes with higher capacities and the beefed up A9X processor.

The announcements leave Apple with five active models in both categories.

Potential iPhone buyers can now choose between the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE. The iPhone 5S is pushed from the current line-up to make room for the SE, which is the only four inch model in the line-up.

The situation on iPad is just as cluttered. The official options are now the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 4, 12.9 inch iPad Pro and the 9.7 inch iPad Pro. The iPad Air is the model that makes way.
