The Nintendo 3DS shifted 209,623 units in its first full week on sale in Japan, outperforming every other format combat.
The handheld was released on February 26th, so it was only available for just two of the day’s covered by the previous week’s charts, reports GamesIndustry.biz. Nevertheless, it managed to rack up sales of 374,764 units during that time – almost selling through the launch shipment of 400,000.
In its second week, the 3DS software sales were still led by Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle – which achieved No.3 in the all formats charts, followed by Nintendogs + Cats and Samurai Warriors: Chronicles.
Elsewhere in the Japanese charts, Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy debuted at No.1, helping PSP sales rise from 49,031 to 77,326. Meanwhile, PS3 sales also rose by roughly 2,000 units – thanks largely to new release Way of the Samurai 4, which came it at No.2.
Nintendo DS sales only slipped by a few hundred units to 17,096, while the Wii slipped by just over 500 units to 11,654. Xbox 360 sales fell from 3,366 to 2,353 for the week to PS2 holds steady at 1,750.
