Almost every games platform on the market saw declining hardware sales this week.
This is most likely due to the ongoing impact of the recent earthquake. Reports have emerged that the PSP has been suffering from supply problems, but it is unclear how much the disaster has played in this.
One of the biggest casualties has been the 3DS, which saw sales fall by a third week-on-week to 61,394 units, according to GamesIndustry.biz. This is the fourth consecutive week that the handheld has been the best-selling format in the region.
PS3 came in second place with sales of 26,623 units, down from 32,406 units. This was followed by the PSP, which saw sales fall by nearly half to 23,511 units – 600 of which were PSPgo.
Wii and Xbox 360 sales were static, coming in at 9,724 units and 1,619 units respectively. The DS family was the only format to see a slight rise in sales, increasing by over 1,000 units to a combined 14,590 units: 7,452 for DSi XL, 6,513 for DSi and 625 for DS Lite.
