JAPAN: Wii videos-on-demand launched

Japanese Wii owners can now rent movies, anime and other paid video downloads through the Wii no Ma Channel.

The new Theater no Ma section launched this weekend, enabling consumers to use the new videos-on-demand service by renting content with their Wii Points, according to Andriasang.

Nintendo’s own programmes, such as the Kirby and Pokemon anime, will be available. The platform holder is also working with several major content providers to bring their properties to the channel, including Walt Disney Japan, NHK, Toei, J League Media Promotion, Warner Entertainment Japan and more.

Users will be able to view free sample clips of anything they wish to rent, and some content can even be transferred to the DSi for later viewing.
