Multi-channel retailer John Lewis has announced intentions to offer free in-store wi-fi courtesy of BT Openzone in all of its UK stores.
Saying that 60 per cent of its customers research a product online before heading to a store to make a purchase. Now John Lewis wants to encourage such behaviour up to the point of purchase.
The service won’t be limited, either, meaning customers will also be free to compare prices with competitors. A good time to remember John Lewis’ “Never Knowingly Undersold” commitment.
All customers will need to do to use the service is register once with their email address.
A dedicated iPhone app is also in development.
“This is a major development in John Lewis's vision for multi-channel retail,” John Lewis IT director Paul Coby said. “We have made great progress with online which is now growing at between 25 per cent and 30 per cent compared to last year and amounts to circa 20 per cent of our revenue.
“We know our customers are mobile and want to be connected anywhere, anytime and any place. This of course means in John Lewis shops and we are committed to providing that connectivity and easy access to our fantastic assortment through our customers' smart phones, iPhones and iPads.”
