With the release of LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, MCV takes a look at the newest Marvel merchandise on the market

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers hits the shelves for all platforms on January 29th, with the difficult task to cover the story of 6 films: The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.

Along with more than 100 playable characters, Warner’s game will feature eight open worlds: New-York City, Asgard, Barton Farm, Malibu, S.H.I.E.L.D Base Exterior, Sokovia, South Africa and Washington D.C.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s characters will not be featured in this game in spite of the huge success of the movie. Perhaps the Guardians will get a Lego game of its own.

In 2015, Warner Bros was the top-selling video game publisher in the US and the third in the UK, thanks to hits like Dying Light, Mortal Kombat X, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and, of course, Lego: Jurassic World and Lego Dimensions.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes also performed very well and has just broken the 1m sales mark in the UK, becoming the best-selling LEGO title on both PS4 and Xbox One.

The game’s appeal is a unique blend of clever humour and high quality gameplay from BAFTA Award-winning TT Games, along with the universal charm of LEGO and the hugely popular Marvel Universe,” commented Warner Bros sales and marketing director Spencer Crossley.

In the meantime, Marvel cinematic universe became the highest grossing movie franchise of all time, with $7.787bn, surpassing Harry Potter ($7.723bn).

Marvel has been releasing at least one movie every year since 2008 (2009 being the only exception). From 2017, three movies will be released each year.

Phase Three of the Marvel cinematic universe will begin with Captain America: Civil War, which will be released on April 29th, 2016.

Disney Infinity 3.0 Marvel Figures

Disney Infinity 3.0 Hulkbuster and Ultron figures will be playable with the brand new Marvel Battlegounds Play Set for the hit video game, which also boasts Star Wars and Pixar characters.
