PERSONNEL NEWS

HMV: Pinder takes on Ellis’ responsibilties

Ewan Pinder has added games to his remit in his new role as head of technology and games.

The shift follows the departure of Tim Ellis, who left HMV last week after eight years at the retailer.

Ellis originally joined HMV in 2004 as head of store operations, before taking over the retailer’s games offering in 2005.

His departure is part of a head office restructure, which will see the technology and games buying teams combined within HMV’s Commercial department – headed up by Pinder.

A spokesperson said: HMV is currently making a number of organisational changes to some of its head office departments. This will involve a small number of people leaving the business, although some new roles are being created as well.

As a result of these changes, Tim Ellis has unfortunately left the business, though he departs with our very best wishes and our profound thanks for his huge commitment and contribution to HMV over many years.”

ISM: Developer agency hires former EA man

Sean Murch has joined game developer agency ISM as an agent.

He was previously head of business development at Next Level Games and CEO of Playful Entertainment. He has also worked at Radical Entertainmnet and EA Sports, where he was in charge of central development.

I can’t imagine a better fit, both in terms of interest and ability,” said Murch. Enabling developers to reach their goals and structuring good deals have always been the most rewarding part of my job. With ISM, I get to do both – full time.”

FUTURE: Richard Keith returns

Richard Keith has returned to the media firm as publisher, having left two years ago to co-found blog network The Games Tribe.

He replaces James Binns who departed the firm last week. Over the last 18 years, Binns has risen from journalist to editor and then publisher, before taking his most recent position as head of Edge International.

Through my years at Future, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the finest, smartest people I’ll ever know, and on brands I’ve really loved,” said Binns. Over all that time I wouldn’t change a thing. Now, after 18 amazing years, it’s time for new adventures.”

Group publishing director Simon Maxwell added: James has achieved amazing things at Future over the years and he leaves with our thanks and our heartfelt best wishes. He will be greatly missed – he’s a great character as well as being one of the most passionate people I have ever had the pleasure of working with.”

Happily, I am pleased to be able to appoint Richard to pick up and drive forward these key brands in our Entertainment portfolio. He brings a wealth of experience, a great knowledge of the games market and a track record in the digital space.”
