MCV Pacific Weekly Wrap-Up

The Aussie government makes several moves this week, while the NZGDA conference announces its lineup and Call of Duty hits TV.

  • The Australian federal government has confirmed its plans to launch an inquiry into the high prices in the IT sector.
  • In other government-related news, a Convergence Review has reported that the government needs to step in and provide tax offsets to Australian game developers, while the state of Victoria removes a funding program for games, leaving the future of any government funds in that state unknown, and a National Cultural Policy report which would have seen further integration between the government and the digital sector gets postponed.
  • The New Zealand Game Developers' Association (NZGDA) has confirmed the lineup for its annual conference.
  • Activision makes a huge splash with Call of Duty: Black Ops II getting the TV treatment for its reveal - an unprecedented marketing move in the region.
