Microsoft says Xbox One Red Dead Redemption release was an error

A small number of users were able to download a backwardly compatible Xbox One version of Rockstar’s much cherished Red Dead Redemption at the weekend.

The Wild West game was for a period the most requested title for Microsoft’s backwards compatibility service, so it’s no surprise that an Xbox One release is in the works.

However, Microsoft has disappointed all with claims that the whole thing was an error, and removed the download from the service.

Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles,” Xbox Live’s director of programming Larry Hryb said. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available.

We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon.”

So expect an official release soon, then?
