US gaming magazine Game Informer has confirmed that the next Gears of War title will be called Gears of War: Judgment, and also revealed the two covers it will feature on its July issue featuring the new game.
While series creator Epic Games developed the first three games, Judgment, which is thought to be a prequel, will be developed by Bulletstorm-developed People Can Fly, if this tweet by Epic Games president Mike Capps is to be believed.
The two GI covers show series mainstays Damon Baird and Augustus "Cole Train" Cole respectively in chains, with Locust hordes on the back cover shown doing what they do best.
A full reveal of Gears of War: Judgment is expect at Microsoft's E3 press conference on Monday night.
Game Informer has posted a sneak preview of its July cover, which features a new Gears of War game, the official name of which will be revealed by Microsoft during its E3 press conference on 4th June.
The cover image, which is mostly shrouded in darkness to keep the suspense going till the game is officially unveiled, seemingly shows a COG soldier in chains. The character’s identity hasn’t been revealed. The only detail Game Informer did give away was that the game is headed to the Xbox 360, which really isn’t much of a surprise.
Will it be Gears of War 4, a spin-off, a prequel? Will it use Unreal Engine 4.0? You’ll have to tune in to Microsoft’s E3 press conference on Monday night to find out. The press conference kicks off at 10:30 PM IST. Several websites will be hosting live streams, including Gamespot (via Youtube), IGN and Gametrailers.
