Minecraft developer Mojang has announced the Block by Block program, an initiative in partnership with the UN to encourage youth to join in the planning process of building local environments.
The development studio explains the collaboration on its blog as similar to the program implemented in Sweden. A reconstruction of Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya within Minecraft has been put together as part of the pilot program.
With Mojang as a primary sponsor, Block by Block is to support the UN-Habitat’s Sustainable Urban Development Network in its schedule to upgrade some 300 public spaces by 2016.
A dedicated site for the program is expected to launch soon for those interested in viewing or participating.
