Minecraft strikes book and magazine publishing deal

Indie PC hit Minecraft is hitting the High Street – but you’ll have to head to the book aisle to find it.

UK outfit Egmont Publishing has acquired the book and magazine publishing rights from Mojang, TechCrunch reports. The deal covers all territories except the US.

It has not yet been revealed what products will be produced or which territories it intends to launch into, although multiple products” have been confirmed for 2013.

Egmont last month agreed a deal to publish Angry Birds books in the UK.

Publishing rights for this virtual building blocks game represent a huge opportunity for us,” Egmont MD David Riley stated. The deal is a great fit with Egmont and sits brilliantly amidst our growing portfolio of viral video, social media, virtual world, mobile and online gaming entertainment properties.”
