Mojang lowers Scrolls price ahead of arrival on tablets

Minecraft developer Mojang is to lower the price of Scrolls as it prepares to release the game on tablets.

You knew that Mojang made more than just Minecraft, right?

Scrolls currently costs 12.95 on PC and Mac but will be cut to $5 (around 3) when it hits tablets in the near future. Those who already own the game will be given a free $20 shard package to make up for it.

Our current price of $21 isn’t feasible for tablets,” the studio said. As you probably already know, games are cheap on those things. Free-to-play would be an option, but we’re not keen on the way that that form of monetisation can affect gameplay.”

Mojang has also confirmed that Scrolls will offer cross-platform play and that players will be able to jump between versions using the same save.

Cross-platform play is extremely important to us, so creating separate communities for tablets and PC/Mac was out of the question,” it added. We’re also determined to maintain a one-off cost for Scrolls and not pressure our players into spending extra cash in order to be competitive, or to have a good time in both the early and late game.”
