New inquiry into games violence revealed

A Government investigation has been launched this morning that will focus on the potential risks from harmful material on the internet and in video games.

It will focus on several key areas including cyber bulllying, user generated content that glorifies gang violence, social networking sites, pornography and content that incites racial hatred, extremism or terrorism.

It also intends to be broader in scope that the Byron Review” as it will examine the impact of content on consumers in general, rather than focusing solely on the impact on children and young people.”

Written submissions are invited from interested parties, and should be submitted by Wednesday 30th January 2008. For more info, have a look at the press release here.
