Newell: Valve saw 50% business growth in 2012

Valve’s tight grip on the PC market is paying off, as the company saw business grow by around 50 per cent last year.

Gabe Newell revealed the info during an interview at the BAFTA awards last week, where he was honoured with the Academy Fellowship.

Newell mentioned that a recent Dota 2 update accounted for a rather unreal two per cent of all land and mobile internet activity when it released. The game recently overtook Skyrim’s record for most concurrent players on Steam, reaching just under 300k.

Newell added that the growth was due in no small part to community-created content in games such as Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2, which he says has helped create "an insatiable demand for gaming right now."
