NGP not delayed by Japan quake

The tragic earthquakes and natural disasters that hit Japan last month haven’t necessarily slowed Sony’s production capacity.

Earlier this week, SCEA boss Jack Tretton said that damage to one Sony Japan manufacturing plant could mean that parts production for the NGP handheld specifically could be delayed.

But last night an SCEJ spokesperson has said this is not the case.

"So far we see no impact from the quake on our launch plan," SCEJ spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka told Nikkei.

The original Tretton comment, published by Bloomberg, said that the quake meant only one territory may get the device.

But Fukuoka said the original Bloomberg report that quoted Tretton was ‘wrong’, and that the plan is still on to roll the device out globally at the end of the year.

Previously, MCV reported that the machine is pencilled in for the poetic ’11/11/11′ November date in the UK, although that is still unconfirmed by Sony itself.
