No single player DLC for Mass Effect: Andromeda, report claims

EA and BioWare have chosen not to release any single player DLC for recent RPG release Mass Effect: Andromeda.

That’s according to Kotaku, which cites three people familiar with the matter. The news is also entirely separate to the Mass Effect speculation doing the rounds last week.

The site first reported back in May that future plans for the Mass Effect series had been drastically scaled back, with staff reallocated to projects at other studios including Star Wars Battlefront II and what has now been named as Anthem.

As such, only a small team remains in place for Mass Effect, and its work continues to focus on patching the existing title. Kotaku now reports that this team does not have the capacity to produce any significant expansions for the title.

The site also reiterated that all plans for a sequel have been scrapped.

Last week BioWare was forced to dismiss rumours of a complete cancellation of Mass Effect: Andromeda’s DLC. A Facebook post (which is now believed to be a hoax) alleged that BioWare had yanked it off development duties and cancelled all DLC plans for the game.

This news saddens us to say, but it was made official after a meeting this week that there will be no story DLC for Mass Effect Andromeda,” a now deleted (and undoubtedly very suspect) post captured byCritical Hitsaid. Due to issues in initial production, heavy critique, significant delays in other projects it was decided to shelve the franchise for the time being and all resources and outsourcing are being focused to the 2018 release of Anthem.

For the moment the Mass Effect series will be on ice until BioWare can decide which direction the franchise will go. The only content that will be produced will be the recurring APEX missions as well as patches as and when needed”.

EA itself soon confirmed toPC Gamerthat there is no truth to the claims. "We’ve never worked with Sinclair Networks and they had nothing to do with the development of Mass Effect: Andromeda," it said "Beyond that we don’t have any news to share at this time regarding DLC."
