OnLive claims UK audience of ‘millions’

THE UK launch of games streaming service OnLive reached ‘millions’ of users, says CEO Steve Perlman.

That’s part of an overall global figure in the ‘tens of millions’, he told MCV – but still drew the line at giving any exact figures.

OnLive went live on September 22nd and allows users to buy, stream and play a collection of games almost instantly online. The rollout came a year after the US launch, but the company has never given concrete numbers on its userbase.

The firm reckons that UK OnLive demand was so high on day one that it had to activate more servers to cope with the demand.

The growth in the UK has been faster than when we launched in the US,” Perlman said. It went beyond what we ever imagined. Overwhelmed is not even the word. The numbers in the UK are ten times what we projected.”

The microconsole – which lets users play OnLive through their TV – is expected to go on sale this year in GAME, with other retailers able to stock it in the following months. It is currently for sale on the OnLive website for 69.99.
