Overwatch release date and beta are official

Blizzard has confirmed the rumours – Overwatch will be released on May 24th, with an open beta on PS4, Xbox One and PC kicking off on May 5th.

Three versions of the game are available to pre-order – the standard SKU, the Origins Edition with extra skins and assorted cosmetic items (44.99 on PC, 54.99 on PS4 and Xbox One) and the Collector’s Edition with a 12.8-inch Soldier 76 statue (99.99).

In the UK, those who pre-order digitally or buy physically from GAME will also get early access to the beta for both themselves and a friends from May 3rd. The beta will terminate for all on May 9th. Xbox Live Gold is required to play the beta on Xbox One, although PlayStation Plus membership is not required for PS4.

Beta progress will not be carried over to the main game, nor will there be cross-platform play.

The dates were leaked via an online ad over the weekend. May 3rd is also the release date for 2K’s not entirely dissimilar online shooter Battleborn.
