Fallout: New Vegas studio Obsidian Entertainment has struck a licensing deal with Paizo Publishing to create games based on the Pathfinder IP.

The developer’s first project will be a take on the Pathfinder: Adventure card game for smartphones and tablets, but the developer made it clear the partnership is for the long-term as well.

"At Obsidian we have a long history of working with the greatest RPG franchises, and we're thrilled to get to play in the Pathfinder universe now," CEO Feargus Urquhart said. "We're huge fans and can't wait to bring what we do in the electronic gaming world to Pathfinder fans everywhere."

"Obsidian is a video game developer at the top of its game", Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens added. "Being able to bring that type of experience and passion to Pathfinder can only mean great things, both for our loyal Pathfinder community and for all fans of great CRPG's."

The original Pathfinder tabletop RPG launched in 2009, and has since garnered hundreds of thousands of players worldwide. A Pathfinder sandbox MMORPG  – which raised $1,091,194 in a 2013 Kickstarter campaign – is also in the works at developer Goblinworks.
