Pokemon Gold/Silver hits No.1 in Japan

Pokemon reigned supreme at the top of the Japanese charts last week, with the download card version of Pokemon Gold and Silver taking the top spot and Pokken Tournament DX taking No.2, giving Nintendo titles four spots in the Top Ten for the week ending September 24th.

The download card for Gold and Silver shifted 56,013 copies during its first three days on sale, driven largely by the special edition boxes resembling their 1999 Game Boy Color counterparts. A digital edition of each game was also released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop at the same time.

Pokken Tournament DX, meanwhile, claimed No.2. This updated Switch port of the Wii U original was down on the first game’s launch, which opened to 73,000 sales in 2016. However, it still sold more than 40,000 copies more than last week’s other new fighting game entry, Capcom’s Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. The only other new entry was the Switch version of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest X: All-in-One package, which debuted at No.5 with 13,000 units sold.

Splatoon 2 fell a place to No.3 after a 32 per cent drop in sales, while the week before’s No.1, PES 2018, slid to No.4 after a 72 per cent drop-off. Both Metroid: Samus Returns and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, on the other hand, failed to make the Top Ten this week.

In the hardware charts, the Switch continued its reign at the top with another 50,000 units sold – an increase of 31 per cent week-on-week.
