PS3 to get ‘competitive’ pricing in March 2009, claims report

Sony will drop the European price of the PS3 to make it ‘more competitive’ in March 2009 according to details supposedly leaked from an internal meeting held at the company last week.

Allegedly, at the ‘Sony Computer Entertainment Staff Annual Briefing’ held on Friday, SCEE president David Reeves said that his division was the toast of the SCE business due to PlayStation sales, reports fansite DPAD.

The PS3 is outselling the 360 in PAL regions according to Sony data, which means SCEE is making more profit than SCEA or SCEJ. Reeves allegedly said that such strong sales have helped put the games division of Sony back ‘in the black’.

So no need for a price cut in the immediate future – but one is pencilled in to make the machine ‘more competitive’ early next year, in March, as Sony looks to widen the gap between it in the 360, says the report.

It’s possible the March date means the price will drop to accompany the release of the long-awaited shooter Killzone 2.

As well as Guerilla’s shooter, it is alleged that both Uncharted 2 and God of War 2 were on display, with the latter already setting the internet alight following claims from original GoW developer David Jaffe that the game is visually unlike anything you’ve seen before”.

Also touted was the already-speculated PSP version of LittleBigPlanet, along with the surprise news of a PSP outing for Sony IP MotorStorm.
