PS4 has "slight momentum edge" over Xbox One in the US, analyst claims

Sony appears to have emerged as the narrow front-runner in the early days of the next-gen console war in the US.

Sony’s PS4 clearly bounced back from our mixed early-2013 supply chain checks, and appears to have a slight momentum edge among core gamers, as demonstrated by premium prices on eBay and persistent out-of-stock reports at retail,” Baird Equity Research analyst Colin Sebastian wrote.

However, we view the console battle as too close to call, with both platforms selling well over the holidays. Moreover, a competitive ‘two horse’ console race would be positive for software publishers and retailers if Microsoft and Sony are forced to compete aggressively for market share.”

Note of course that while Xbox 360 and PS3 sales largely were neck-and-neck on a global basis, the Xbox 360 enjoyed a healthy victory in Microsoft’s homeland.

Overall Sebastian predicts the US games market to have met or exceeded Q4 sales expectations.
