The PlayStation Network brand will be abandoned on February 8th.
In its place, all PSN account holders will have their details transferred over to the all new Sony Entertainment Network.
“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering,” the company stated.
“As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network.
“This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
Other than the name there will be more or less no other noticeable change for PSN users. The change will be implemented on both PS3 and PS Vita via a firmware update to be issued this week.
UPDATE: Sony has contacted MCV to clarify some details about the transition to SEN.
"We are re-branding accounts ONLY and PlayStation Network will still exist in its current form. The only difference to users is that with effect from tomorrow their PSN account will become a Sony Entertainment Network account."
