Video game publishers have promised to back future outings of the MCM Expo following the success of last month’s event.
Over 38,000 consumers attended the show at London Excel, which featured more games than ever – including Assassin’s Creed II, Ju-On: The Grudge, Undead Knights, LEGO Rock Band, Bayonetta, Monster Hunter and Left 4 Dead 2.
“Out of all of the MCM shows that we’ve been at, this was by far the busiest and best,” said Namco Bandai product manager Kate White.
“We were really pleased with the fantastic reaction to the playable demo at the Star Trek Online stand and the Tekken 6 tournament was completely rammed.
“MCM is a perfect show for us as the audience is spot on for our anime titles and we’ve already got some great ideas for the next show in May.”
Rising Star’s product manager Yen Hau added: “The MCM Expo attracts a type of consumer who perhaps wouldn’t attend a specific gaming exhibition.
“The people who attend these events want to have fun, dress up, meet their friends and see what’s coming out related to Japanese culture. It is always a far more relaxed atmosphere and reaches a far wider audience.”
Publishers are now signing up for the next event, due to take place in May. Companies have also been registering interest in associated expos including Memorabilia in Birmingham, which takes place on November 21st and the MCM Midlands show in February 20th, 2010.
“The variety of the audience and sheer number of attendees makes MCM an important feature in our calendar,” said Ubisoft’s community co-ordinator Korina Abbott.
“Ubisoft will absolutely continue to attend. We’ve been at the London MCM Expo almost four years running and each time it becomes bigger and better. We look forward to seeing everyone in May.”
