Activision’s toy-based console title Skylanders has demonstrated its incredibly loyal fan following after an auction for some rare figures reached 797 on eBay.
The UK listing offered six rare gold and silver figures, which can then be used in-game via Activision’s Portal of Power.
A total of 35 bids were placed and finished on Saturday afternoon. The buyer also faced a postage charge of 30, brining the total auction fee to 827.
Thanks for visiting my auction for this once in a lifetime opportunity to own the **ultra rare** silver and gold Skylander figures as a set,” the auction description read.
All are in immaculate condition with no cardboard bends, scuffs or marks what so ever [sic]. These are like gold dust to find let alone get all six figures in one auction.”
Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure has been a big commercial success for Activision. The new IP just about crept into last year’s Top 50 chart at No. 48. But, if you add in the various character packs available to buy at Tesco, Toys ‘R’ Us and most major games retailers, the title would have been the eighth biggest seller of the entire year.
Although Chart-Track doesn’t publish a revenue chart, the stat tracker revealed to MCV the title was the 13th highest cash generative game of 2011.
Unsurprisingly, Activision recently announced a sequel to the game – Skylanders: Giants.
