RetroN 5 delayed again over hardware issue

Bad news for those who pre-ordered Hyperkin’s love letter to classic game consoles, RetroN 5: It won’t be here in time for the holidays.

Gamespot reports faulty pins found in some packaged units have caused the hardware maker to push release past its previous December window and into next year.

We apologize for the inconvenience,” said product manager Lawrence Lee.

Hyperkin would like to thank you for all the support you have given us throughout the development of the RetroN 5. We are looking forward to its release, estimated to be within the first quarter of 2014, as soon as the issue has been resolved.”

The hardware went up for pre-order back in September, when it was originally promised to arrive on October 31st. It was later delayed into December prior to this latest issue arising.

The console includes slots for NES, SNES, GameBoy Advance, Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, and Famicom cartridges (NTSC and PAL), and also comes with its own Bluetooth controller with support for original NES, SNES, and Genesis peripherals.
