Sega set to invade Alien universe

The Hollywood Reporter believes that the ambitious publisher has already signed a deal with 20th Century Fox for the rights to the series, and is currently talking to the stars of the films in order to use their likenesses in the new games.

Sega is already developing “multiple next generation and PC” games set in the Alien universe, with Sega vice president of business development Rob Lightner confident the new title will be a big deal in the games world.

“We haven't finalized anything at this point, but everything is on the table,” Lightner said. “It’s important for everyone to understand the difference here: We’re taking licensing to the next level with this franchise.”

The senior producer of the new games at Sega Mike Gallo also went on record to speak about what the new titles will be like.

“We’ll go out of our way to tie the games into the films in unique ways,” he said. “We’re also looking at all Alien source material for inspiration, in addition to the films. We may incorporate some characters that fans know and love, and we may let gamers find answers to questions that were left unanswered in the movies.”

This latest deal marks another significant step for Sega as it looks to strengthen its position in terms of licensing and Western content. The publisher has also recently signed deals for Charlotte’s Web, Iron Man and the His Dark Materials trilogy.
