Shadow of the Colossus remake and Horizon DLC revealed

In a showcase that was surprisingly light on new announcements, it was the confirmation of a full and proper remake of cult hit Shadow of the Colossus that stole the show for Sony last night.

Those who felt like we’ve been here before are likely thinking of the 2011 PS3 remaster of the game that came as part of The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection. In fact, this new game – which is in development for PS4 – is a from the ground up remake of Team Ico’s 2005 PS2 title.

Like the HD remaster, this version is again being handled by Bluepoint, along with Sony Japan Studio.

The only other brand new first party content on offer was the first DLC pack for Horizon Zero Dawn, called The Frozen Wilds. It takes place beyond the game’s Northern Mountains and offer new enemies and a new story expansion.

Beyond that Capcom had a new game to show, although it’s not a PS4 exclusive. Monster Hunter World is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC and introduces a living, breathing ecosystem in which players take on the role of a hunter that seeks and slays ferocious beasts in heart-pounding battles that unfold across the vast ever-changing terrain”.

Adds the blurb: Venture on quests alone or with up to three hunters in a newly designed online drop-in multiplayer system which allows cross-region cooperative play between Japan and the west, uniting the player base for the first time ever.”

It will be the first game in the series to ship simultaneously worldwide once it arrives some time in early 2018.
