Six teams invited to The International 6, 10 places still up for grabs

OG, Team Liquid, Newbee, LGD Gaming, MVP Phoenix and Natus Vincere have all received direct invitations to The International 6, the biggest Dota 2 event of the year.

The teams have been invited after competing at the top level over the past few months, and keeping team rosters unchanged after the roster lock. All of these teams can now sit back, or more likely start boot camping for the event, and not have to worry about gaining qualification.

Eight of the final 10 spots will be decided over the next seven days, as the open and regional qualifiers take place. The open qualifiers are open to anyone, with the winner advancing to the regional qualifiers. There will be two open qualifiers for each region, North America, Europe, China and Southeast Asia and these are due to start today.

Once the open qualifiers are over the regional qualifiers will take place. Again there will be a separate qualifier for each region, with the top two advancing to TI6 directly and third place gaining a spot in the wildcard tournament. The wildcard tournament will be played in Seattle just before TI6, the top two (of four) teams will grab the final two places in the main event.

Notably Evil Geniuses, the winner of The International 5, and Team Secret, the winner of the Shanghai Major, are not included in either the main event invitations or the qualifier invitations. This is due to both teams switching players over the last few weeks, breaking the roster lock terms and thus having to qualify through the open qualifiers.

The full list of teams invited to the regional qualifiers and info on how to sign up to the open qualifiers can be seen on the Dota 2 website.
